The purpose of this IRS is to explain or complement the requirements set out in EN 13979-1:2020 for obtaining UIC labelling for a wheel. For each chapter of the EN, the lRS gives explanations or additional material as necessary. In relation to the EN, this IRS provides information on the inspection procedures applied at UIC level to arrive at the decision to grant UIC technical approval. UIC technical approval is granted for the wheel design. The approval can then be used by any manufacturer once any potential design ownership issues have been resolved. In order to facilitate the complementary use of this document and EN 13979-1:2020, the chapters have been numbered from 4 onwards. It integrates in full or in part the following UIC leaflets: - 510-5 It aims to complement the following standards: - EN 13979-1:2020
