1.1 This specification covers a general classification system for ethylene plastics. The requirements specified herein are not necessarily applicable for use as criteria in determining suitability for end use of a fabricated product. Note 1-This specification is intended as a broad classification system which can include those plastics defined by Specification D1248. Where more specific requirements covering polyethylene plastics are needed, it is suggested that Specification D1248 be considered.1.2 The parameters used to classify and specify ethylene plastics are flexural modulus, flow rate, intrinsic viscosity, brittleness temperature, dielectric constant, and dissipation factor. 1.3 Ethylene plastic materials, being thermoplastic, are reprocessable and recyclable (see Note 2). This specification allows for the use of those ethylene plastic materials, provided that any specific requirements as governed by the producer and end user are met. Note 2-See Guide D5033 for information and definitions related to recycled plastics.1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values in parentheses are given for information only. |
